Biathlon: 2026/27 World Cup preview — will Norwegian hegemony continue?

🎯

The 2026/27 biathlon season kicks off at the end of November in Kontiolahti, Finland. Experts are already assessing the balance of power ahead of the new World Cup campaign.

Norway — favourites again

Johannes Thingnes Bø is the reigning Big Crystal Globe holder and the main contender to defend the title. The Norwegian leader combines high skiing speed with excellent shooting (96.3% accuracy last season).

Main contenders

Sebastian Samuelsson of Sweden has finished second in the overall standings three times already and is hungry for more. French biathlon is undergoing a generational change: young Desthieux and Taillefer are taking on leadership responsibilities.

Women's race

Lisa Theresa Hauser of Germany won the last three races of the previous season and is considered the main contender for the Big Globe among women.
