Thailand ends Poland’s perfect run

Poland had won all five pool matches. Thailand, fourth in Pool A, answered 25-19, 25-21, 10-25, 25-23 in Santiago. The third set was a blowout the other way; the fourth was won on serve. Poland’s first loss is also an exit from medal contention.

Korea and USA stay unbeaten

Korea beat the Philippines 3-0 in Los Andes. Captain Son Seo-yeon had 19 points with three blocks and three aces. The United States beat Argentina 25-15, 25-23, 25-15, with Knotts and Ogbogu on 16 each. Attack 47-29, aces 9-3. Türkiye had already swept Japan.

Friday’s four matches

Italy–USA is unbeaten vs unbeaten. Türkiye–Korea matches a 12-2 block edge against Japan with Son’s serve. China get Croatia; Thailand’s upset meets Chinese Taipei. Thursday is a rest day. The medal bracket is now four matches, not a pool kaleidoscope.

Poland’s exit re-seeds Friday. Thailand already wrote the tournament’s shock. Perfect pools do not book medals if serve receive dips.

Korea’s balance — Son’s serve and block, Eo Min-seo’s second wave — is the most stable new threat. Türkiye’s 12 blocks against Japan are the other kind of problem.

Thursday’s rest is for serve legs, not tourism. At this age group, aces cut brackets faster than blocks. Two aces to open Friday’s first set will steal it.
