Shanghai does not have a champion yet. The Rolex Shanghai Masters, on hard courts at Qizhong, runs from 7 to 18 October. The singles final is Sunday the 18th. Valentin Vacherot is the defending champion, after beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in last year’s final. That is last year’s fact on the ATP site, not a pick for this one.
Sunday 11 October is the day the ATP actually wrote up. Top seed Alexander Zverev beat Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-7(8), 6-3 in 2 hours 17 minutes. It was his 60th tour-level win of 2026. Infosys numbers quoted by the ATP say he did not face a break point. He still let two match points go in the second-set tie-break. He now leads Halys 4-0. Next is the winner of Brandon Nakashima or Alexander Bublik, the 16th and 19th seeds. That match was not closed in Sunday’s report, so it is not called here.
Djokovic, and the race for No. 1
The same day Hubert Hurkacz beat tenth seed Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3. One hour 27 minutes on Stadium Court, umpire John Blom. Arthur Gea beat third seed Ben Shelton 7-6(5), 7-6(3). The ATP’s Sunday note also has Alex de Minaur past Rei Sakamoto and Jakub Mensik past Francisco Cerundolo. The short note does not give those two scorelines game by game, so they are not invented here.
One line on Zverev matters more than another set. The ATP says Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 season early because of a knee, and that the German cannot become PIF world No. 1 before 2 November. Reaching the Shanghai semi-finals can still seal the year-end No. 1. That is a condition, not a result. He still has to get there.
Monday 12 October is outside this note. Fourth-round matches were either on court or still to come when it was written. The final stays on 18 October. The ATP lists the winner’s cheque at $1,151,380 and 1,000 points. Six days of court between here and that.
