KHL: Dynamo end their slide by beating SKA 4-3 in overtime, Ak Bars lose 1-4 to Severstal

Sunday in the KHL was decided in overtime. Dynamo Moscow beat SKA 4-3 and stopped a run of six defeats. The 11 October report has the goals: Artem Shvets-Rogovoy on two minutes, Nick Merkley on nine, Vladislav Syomin pulling one back in the second, Merkley’s second in the third, then Matvey Korotkiy and Vasily Atanasov for SKA, and Pavel Shen for the winner.

That report puts Dynamo on 14 points and SKA on 17, sixth in the West. Those are Sunday’s numbers, not Saturday morning’s. Dynamo go to CSKA on 14 October. SKA visit Severstal on the 13th.

Kazan the day before

On Saturday Ak Bars lost 1-4 at home to Severstal. Sport-Express and the match card both have it, by period 1-2, 0-0, 0-3. Cherepovets had already beaten SKA 5-2 and Torpedo 3-2 in October. Kazan had lost 2-3 to Traktor and 0-2 to Lokomotiv. The league’s own preview on 10 October said so, and 1-4 is a heavier result than “another slip”.

The table Sport-Express showed around that Saturday game had Lokomotiv and CSKA level: 14 games, 22 points each. Severstal were third in the West in that snapshot. Do not paste SKA’s 17 points from Sunday onto it. Two cuts, two days.

Monday 12 October is not empty in the schedule KP reprints from the league list: Barys–Sibir, Shanghai Dragons–Dynamo Minsk, Torpedo–Metallurg Magnitogorsk, Ak Bars–Sochi, Amur–Lada, Salavat Yulaev–Neftekhimik. That listing has no start times, so none are invented here. Those games were still ahead when this was written.

The September line that SKA were setting the pace, with Ak Bars close by, does not describe the middle of October. SKA did not take a regulation point on Sunday. Ak Bars conceded four at home. Lokomotiv, in Saturday’s cut, were still at the top of the West with CSKA.
